Supercross - 2004 Vigil's
View
My day started
by making sure I had my bus trip essentials packed…a supersize bag
of hot & spicy pork rinds, tortilla chips, Pepsi and 750ml of Jack
Daniels. Wow, does that say “road trip”. I was whisked away by the
zippy and limo-like Ueltzen family MPV minivan. We arrived at the
our rendezvous point, Chris Weissensee’s shop.
There were 25
of us on the bus, most were club members, and some friends. I don’t
believe we had made it to West Sacramento before the hop & grain
based beverages started flowing. A couple of us
proceeded
to have a few Jack & Cokes (J&C). Well the bus ride was good, a
little of a letdown after cruising
in the Ueltzen MPV. We arrived at
our destination, Pac Bell park, home of the never-won-a-World
Series-Giants.
We
re-stocked for the trip through the pits. Somehow we managed to have
this one girl follow us around the pits all day. She managed to get
more autographs than we did. Well back to the bus to re-stock for
the walk to the stadium. At this point, rumors
started to fly about one of our own having reached his limit. I
thought they were in
better condition when they came from
Chico State. Well we made it in and to
our seats. Capitol
Powersports did us great,
they got us hooked up with some great seats.
Practice was
great. We were eager for the racing to begin. We had a club member
decide it was time to take a nap through all of practice and most of
the racing. He did wake up when he decided that his view was
obstructed, he decided to clear the four rows in front of him by “ralphing”,
as the seats cleared, he decided to back to sleep. He was kind
enough to allow us to use him to store our peanut shells and
beverages on his back while he napped. Later we found out that he
decided to partake of a couple of J&C’s, this is something that only
a trained professional should do.
The racing was
great, we all had our favorites we were rooting for. Unfortunately,
mine didn’t win. I can’t even remember who did win.
Well, back to
the bus. We had a few riders that were going home with other
prearranged transportation. We waited for quite a while, as we had
one member that was A.W.O.L. The bus driver was emphatic that she
had to return to Sacramento. We pleaded with her to give us a few
more minutes to account for the missing member. Finally, she could
not wait any longer and we departed without two of our members. As
much as we missed them, we knew they would be able to take care of
themselves, they were big boys.
Back at our
Sacramento destination, we all disembarked and got to our own
vehicles to head home. Ah, this meant one more ride in the Ueltzen
MPV. It performed flawlessly, except that I did not know the rear
hatch sometimes while at cruising speed on Capitol City Freeway. We
managed to get it shut and got home. Long day, but it was fun being
with all my other fellow Trail Dogs.
