Georgetown 11-14-04

By Andrew

Dave gave me a call early in the week, "Hey, you gonna go ridin' this weekend?"  "You betcha! Let's hit Georgetown." And so it was...

We made a few quick calls to some club members that might be interested in another STD adventure.  Sure enough, Steve, Tim, & Shawn were game! After setting a departure time of 7:30am at the BueOaks Chevron in West Roseville we all set to get our bikes ready and get a good night sleep.

Dave & Steve were right on time.  So was Brian, a possible future STD pledge.  Now Tim and Shawn were another story...  We gave a call to Tim, who was on the way, just decided to pick up a Carl's Jr. breakfast.  I guess the Golden Arches give him indigestion.  He was just a few minutes out.  Tim gave Shawn a call and his voice sounded like he just woke up.  "We'll meet you in Auburn,  Get going!"

Shawn hauled ass and beat us to the Elm road exit in Auburn, however he needed to pick up fuel. So we pulled over and waited.  In a few minutes we were on our way...

As we pulled into our typical staging area at Darling Ridge, we noticed quite a few no trespassing signs.  Oh well, the trail was right there so we unloaded and headed out for a good loop.  About 15 minutes into the ride Shawn decided to brush up on his swimming skills in a nice pig puddle.  He was totally drenched. We decided to make it a short loop (12 miles) so Shawn could get changed into dry gear.

After a brief rest we topped our fuel tanks and headed out again.  Steve had the odometer so we knew we could go for 25 miles till we needed to turn around.  Therefore, we just had to cross Rock Creek if we were going to do anything over 20 miles.  The Honda boys made it through fairly well, only the pledge had a little bit of a stall at the edge.  On the other hand, the Yamaha boys both stalled it in the middle, and one of them (Dave on his new 250f) needed some help getting it started. After the typical brand bashing we were off again.  Great single track on the flume trail led us to a rocky uphill.  We all made it to the top for a spectacular view across the valley.

We continued on and hit a fun part of loop 5 that seemed to be a favorite of the group.  Tim had a little stall on a tight uphill section and stopped up everyone behind. He made his apologies, seeing that he roosted all of us earlier in the day! We could tell he was feeling a bit guilty...

We went back onto another flume trail and headed up Bald Mt. In a little tricky uphill section I got a bit out of sorts but still made it up. Bouncing from rock to rock with my feet flailing, I did not look in control.  Consequently, I took the line away from Shawn as he was going to pass me on the left and spoiled his run. Luckily, he had experience from "T3a" and knew how to get going again from a dead stop on steep terrain.

Anyways, we reached the 25 mile mark and headed back. The loop turned out to be just under 50 miles putting us at 62 miles for the day.  Great fun for all...

. Till we Roost again.....
